Be Real Blog - Borat is A Perfect Film

A little more than eleven years ago a little film by the name of Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Borat is a mockumentary a film made in the style of a documentary that is supposed to supervise the topic of the “documentary”. But Borat transcends the mockumentary it feels almost wrong to call it a mockumentary. It’s more of a social commentary. Sasha Baron Cohen uses the character of Borat to try and bait a response from people to see what they would do when faced with an absurd claim or action. Borat is the kind of film that can only happen once, Cohen is too famous and more importantly the character of Borat is too famous to go out and make another film like Borat. Back in 2006 Cohen was only know mostly in England for his show Da ALi G Show which was the show that created Borat, Coming to America to film Borat gave him a blank sleight basically no one would recognise him. The melding of fiction and reality is also very well done, it’s very hard sometimes to tell if something is scripted or not. The infamous hotel scene(Please don’t look it up it’s not for the faint of heart)Looks like it could have only been scripted but when you research it you find out that everything was real that actually happened in an actual hotel with actual people and they actually ran into a real convention. The shock factor of Borat is what turns this movie from a forgettable obscene comedy into a modern day classic that will be compared to films such as Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Star wars. Borat is a cultural jewel and people still reference it to this day phrases such as “MY WIFE!” and “IS NICE!” Borat’s version of the Kazakh nation anthem has even been played at an actual awards ceremony by mistake after a Kazakh team won. Borat is the best movie of our time and it’s legacy will outlive all of us. Borat is a Good, Good movie.

  1. I agree that Borat is subjectively amazing in a sense of comedy. The extreme events that occur by the lunatic Sasha Baron Cohen himself are beyond entertaining. However the movie itself was objectively horrendous. The filming and purpose of the movie was chaotic, leading it to be a very low quality movie in a sense of film quality. The low quality objective features add to the comedic goal of the film, however it looks super unprofessional. The fact that the movie is hard to tell if it is scripted or not is pretty impressive, since most of it was not scripted makes it a pretty unique movie. Despite the objective flaws, the movie overall is a very entertaining movie that I enjoyed a lot, and it is clear that you do as well. Good choice Mike.

  2. Mike i highly agree with the fact that this movie is subjectively amazing because it is extremely funny. Objectively it was not one of those fake movies like Epic Movie or all the scary movies. It made sense with him starting in his main country and then moving. The film itself had a lot of funny moments and serious moments. The serious moments were when he has to save his wife from the Americans. The funny moment is when he walks around his country and describes his friends and family very jokingly. Also the accent Borat has is very different objectively, but subjectively can be hard to understand. Still Borat is a really funny movie. Loce the selection Mike Trela.
