Be Reel Blog: Stranger Things Season 1

Stranger Things season one in my opinion has been one of the best T.V shows that I have ever watched period. I personally had not watched the show until recently because I just thought it was some over hyped T.V show that would just waste my time with. The directors of this film find a way to perfectly blend subjective and objective qualities of a film into one enjoyable film. The director tries to integrate as many examples from mise-en-scene into all of his scenes through the episodes. One of my favorite types of  mise-en-scene that he uses is the shot framing and charter placement throughout the film because it truly captures the intentions of each individual charter. One of the most breathtaking scenes in season one is when mike is forced to jump off a cliff to save dustin from the bullies that are attacking him. But out of nowhere elven comes to save mike mid jump. Everyone that is watching the scene is flooded with mixed emotions, being confused and happy all at the same time. Mike is slowly pulled up from mid air and Dustin, and the two other bullies are stunned from shock. Then from around the corner comes eleven with a look of disgust on her face with notorious blood running down her nose. She walked angrily at the two bullies and pushes one of them to the ground with her special powers and breaks the other kids arm and yelling at them with an angered face to go. From all of the these quick cutting scenes and from all of the action shots during these events causes a great sense of objective quality because it's able to lure the audience in but it is also very subjectively enjoyable too. They make references to D+D, Lord of the rings, and just 80's music throughout the episodes make it enjoyable to watch because of how it gives us nostalgia back to when we were kids and were surrounded by that kind of things. By both the subjective and objective qualities being easily met, makes this film a “good, good”.
