6/13/18 - Film Festival Day No. 2

The class period today was a continuation of the previous day as we watched more movies from our period. The two films, "Water Wars Broadcast" and "The Lot", were in the style of a news reel and documentary respectively. "Water Wars Broadcast" was quite funny which is something really special for the format they choose. "The Lot" was a very natural and unorthodox documentary about the danger and peril students find in the parking lot. We followed up our viewing experiences with constructive feedback in a tweet format. These had to be both objective as well as present analysis of a choice and it's effect

"Water Wars Broadcast" was the very first film we watched today and it was a riot with our class. The editing was above average with the opening theme and the breaking news midway through the film. Gianluca and Sam followed their format to a T with both being clad in expected anchorman and anchorwoman attire. It was refreshing to visit such a familiar topic with Water Wars and the interviews were interesting in the info they provided. Quinn gave some information many in the class were unaware of (no spoilers) and Conner gave a very colorful take on the situation around his elimination. My one issue was that the interviews were a little long. The topic played to the audience which kept us entrenched but if it was anyone else attention might've been lost.

The second film was "The Lot". I would say this documentary was very unorthodox which made it it's own animal and I loved that. It started almost in a 60 Minutes format and then just sprawled into a raw footage documentary. The film was quite natural and I appreciated the fact that it wasn't cut up extensively. Additionally, the editing was really funny with some zany sound effects that caught the class off guard and got some laughs. I really could not say anything was really wrong with the film as all their choices really worked well in my opinion.

For those struggling with coming up with feedback, here's a link with tips.
