Reign Be Reel blog

The series Reign is a fictional/fantasy/historical drama series that recounts the life of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots and her rise to power.  Since the age of 6, Mary was engaged to the son of King Henry of France named Prince Francis.  Her journey through her all her ups and downs within her love life and battling her enemies is all captured in this dramatic series. Even though not every part of this of this show is historically accurate, it still captures the time and essence of the 1500‘s.  As soon as Mary  is of age to get married, she arrives in France is faced with many challenges. The mysterious, sneaky mother-in law, Queen Catherine de Medici of and the incredibly rude French court.  She journeys to France with her ladies in waiting which consists of Lola, Kenna, Greer, and Aylee. This group of friends takes on many challenges from affairs with the King and even the prince himself. Throughout the show, Mary had to marry and have a Aire to the throne to better up her rival and cousin Queen Elizabeth of England. I found that the CW, which is the channel who aired the show, did a great job with costumes, sets, and even picking the right actors to play the roles. They all were acclimated to the time period and it felt like I was watching something very rustic and true to the late 1500’s. Personally, I find that all the shows the CW produces is great, considering they have made The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Jane the Virgin, and Riverdale, just to name a few. I defiantly added this series to one of the great, binge worthy shows to add to the list of hits from this channel. I thought this show was going to start off as a fun, basic and kind of annoying show which took on the good old love story. A beautiful girl, a princess,  meets a handsome boy, a prince and then they fall in love. But I was pleasantly surprised when it was a more complex story.  Politics and some supernatural elements like witches  try to keep them apart and cause this couple major issues between them and their kingdoms. I think this show, has become so much more and I find it all has to do with the fantastic writers and cast. The plot lines vary from political, Kingdom first type problems to personal, true love happy and dark times. I have to emphasize how well the cast  did and portrayed each real life figure as true as they could. They made the audience feel like they were living in the time period by making the tension and drama between everyone so realistic. Almost instantly after the first episode I became obsessed with this show. Of course it has its “what the heck where they thinking parts” but I feel like every show has to have one of those. I’ll also say that while watching this, I found myself very emotional in some scenes because you get so attached to a certain character. Personally Queen Mary was my favorite character. Another character that sparked my interest was Queen Catherine. In the beginning of the show she plays a villain, but a villain an audience loves to hate.  What really surprised me was that this series got cut short. It only made it the season 4 and was ended abruptly. I was truly shocked that the ratings on this show were low and that not a lot of people where a fan of this romantic drama. I read other reviews and people where saying that it was because of the inaccuracies of the history within the show,  but if it was exact to what happened in real life I feel like it would have been a bit boring. I could see where some parts where dragged on a bit but I still enjoyed watching the series as a whole.  Overall, I found this show to be a must watch. I  probably watched the four seasons of the show on Netflix in about three and a half weeks I was that interested in it.  So if you are looking for a historical romance/ mystery show this is totally the show for you!

here is a extended promo of season 1
