Me, Myself and I. Press Release.

This is the story of an all but typical high school girl. Sophia is desperate for friends and for people to notice her. In order to do this she decides the best way is to adapt traits of each sterotypical high school clique. However, she always falls short of creating friends, in fact she does the exact opposite. This tale has no happy, sappy ending of her finding her true self. Just a little something to poke fun at the extreme measures people will go to in order to feel accepted. Follow her through, an emo phase, an anime loving phase, a jock persona, the typical party loving gal, and finally, someone who has given up completely on their self image. In junction with each stage of her personality, there is the brutal rejection from each group of students, and a self-pitying monologue. The bullying in this story is incredibly over exaggerated much like hit teen films, Mean Girls or Cyberbully. A lot like a bad car accident, this narrative will have you hooked, you want to look away but you can not. This story comes from a semi-personal level, as I personally went through a few of these phases myself. In order to protect myself from extreme scrutiny, I will not say which ones. The audio play and it’s characters were voiced by both my sister and I. I could not personally relive the phases, so she played the main character. I had an opportunity to finally be on the other side as I played the bullies. This play will make the viewer wildly uncomfortable for Sophia, or just in general. It will also highlight and create a sense of connection with the main character as many people have also gone through the public school system in a similar way. If you did not have any of these experiences, consider yourself incredibly lucky, and just sit back and laugh anyway. In a roundabout way, this tale does teach a lesson, to not try and be anyone else, as you will be publicly shamed and humiliated for doing so. Show it to your kids as a coming of age story and a precautionary warning. Or, bring it to your friends sleepover next time you guys watch cheesy high school flicks. I hope you sit back and cringe at this embarrassing semi-true tale of mine and learn to never be any of these people.
