Be Reel Blog: The Godfather

The Godfather is by far one of the best films of its generation and its legacy is nearly unmatched in all of the film world. The movie was the first to make millions of dollars a day and was nominated for more than 10 Oscars. Not only was it a money maker it also spawned two more films the second being just as successful. The Godfather was a true masterpiece and is unrivaled by any other film in Hollywood history. The Godfather is a perfect story complemented by the perfect cast of characters to play their roles. Marlon Brando's performance was absolutely perfect and the sheer confidence in his acting caused his role to be embodied flawlessly. Not only Brando but James Cann, Sonny Corleone, and Al Pacino, Michael Corleone, were also perfect for their role. The combination of characters and their backstory made the audience feel attached to the characters and made the movie one less of strangers but characters that we become friends with. As well as casting the director uses mise en scene to enhance the effect of the scene and make the audience feel the same terror the enemies of the Corleone family feel. The lighting and camera angles make the scenes that much more powerful, furthering the audiences emotions. The movie has great storytelling and the creative scenes and details make for a great movie that fills the entire 3 hours with enjoyment. I would rate the Godfather as a movie that is both subjectively Good and objectively Good

  1. Mike, I have personally never seen The Godfather. I have heard about it many times, and have heard great reviews. I also know that it is one of the most well known movies in history. I really enjoyed your synopsis of the film. I also really like how you incorporated the idea of mise en scene into the review of the movie. That itself put a good picture in my head about the movie because I notice how camera angles and lighting can affect a movie or a scene.

  2. Hello Mike I totally agree with your movie review. The Godfather is a great movie and in my opinion was very well made. All 3 parts have a very well made story line from the beginning all through the end. Also the actors that played in the movie even though in the first part is mostly Italian it is still a very enjoyable movie to watch and full of action. I also agree how the director uses mise-en-scene to make the scene come alive.
