June 1, 2018 -- More Narratives and a Ramble About Pixar

Today Mr.Rivers gave us the entire period to work on out narratives. The project is due next Sunday (June 10), but be sure to try and get it done sooner because that's prom weekend guys. You do NOT want to be stuck writing next weekend. Also, don't forget about your cast list, poster, google slide, and blog post to correspond with the project! Next week all classes will be held in the computer lab (133) so that anybody who needs to edit can do so.

Making an outside of class connection a little difficult considering we have been working on our narratives so I'm picking a conversation I had with Mr.Rivers this week to expand on. We were talking about Pixar movies, and if you don't care about Pixar then feel free to stop right here.

In an effort to connect not only Pixar but our narrative I am going to rank the Pixar films based on my personal opinions of their story. While I will consider objective components it will be a heavily subjective list.

19) Cars 2 - Wow. This movie is a train-wreck (or a car-wreck if you will). In an effort to cash in on the success of Mater from Cars, Pixar makes him the main character of this film. The problem is that Mater is quite literally designed to be a supporting character. By thrusting him into the spotlight and making him a spy, the movie truly fell apart before it had even begun.

18) The Good Dinosaur - I don't hate this movie. There are Pixar movies I like less than this film, but to try and look past the story flaws here is too difficult. I will be the first to support the idea of suspending your disbelief. A person should be able to embrace things that lie outside the realm of possibility, but this movie is just too hard to accept. The characters are poorly developed and there are glaring problems story wise. The best way to explain the problem is that I had an easier time believing that a rat could cook than that dinosaurs could farm.

17) A Bug's Life - This is Pixar's second film, so they deserve to be cut some slack. Unfortunately this film fell victim to a deep controversy after its idea was spread over to Dreamworks who immediately made Antz. It likely would have come out unscathed but the film was lacking in comparison to Toy Story. Pixar had yet to establish themselves, and while this film is not bad, it does not live up to the potential of its creators.

16) Monster's University - Another cash grab from Pixar. There was no real story to be told here. Instead they decided to make a Monsters Inc. prequel, because making a sequel would have required doing something with Boo. The obvious thing to do when you have a problem is to find a way around it right? Not try and solve it or maybe just table it and come back for later? Nope they were making another Monsters Inc. movie if it was the last thing they did.

Okay I am realizing that this is becoming way too much for a daily blog. So I am just going to include the rest of my list and maybe I'll explain more in my other expansion next week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

15) Brave (I hate this movie)
14) Finding Dory (This one is way overrated)
13) Inside Out (Sorry Mr.Rivers)
12) Cars (They eventually got this franchise together)
11) Toy Story 2 (Jessie is such a good character oh my gosh)
10) Cars 3 (I told you they got it together)
9) Ratatouille (Not a fan. First movie I ever fell asleep during as a kid. But I appreciate it a bit more now)
8) Up - (I cried, but I didn't fall in love with this movie)
7) Wall-E (Not even close to a bad movie, there are just so many that I like more)
6) Monsters Inc. (It's because his name is Sully)
5) Toy Story (How do you not appreciate the original Pixar story)
4) Coco (A true return to form for the studio. Makes me excited for Incredibles 2)
3) Toy Story 3 (Watch this again because the ending hits way harder as a senior in high school than it did as a ten year old.)
2) Finding Nemo (This is the first movie I remember seeing in theaters so it has a special place in my heart.)
1) The Incredibles (It's incredible. Need I say more)
