Be Reel- Harry Potter and the Scourer's Stone

A look into the Wizard World
Director Chris Columbus takes an adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s first book in the Harry Potter series. The young wizard Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, learns that he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. The orphaned child is taken the Hogwarts School of  Witchcraft and Wizardry, where is will learn about his family, discover his strength (magically), and venture with his friends Ron and Hermione (Rupert Grint and Emma Watson). As the trio get more and more curious, through the movie, Harry discovers new things about himself, and his parent’s mysterious death.
From battling creatures that could only be in the fantasy world, to learning what sports wizards play, the audience is able to experience this magical world and daring adventures. Columbus is able to capture the audience by incorporating a sensation of color and music throughout the lively parts of the film. While in other scenes of the movie Chris Columbus makes choices like a lower lighting key to create an eerier setting/tone. By doing this the audience gets a sense of when something serious is about to happen, as opposed to when the higher lighting key is used for something more celebratory and upbeat (not used as often).
While this is a children's film, Columbus is mainly targeting preteens. By making the main character(s) at the preteen age it allows the target audience to have a better relation to what is happening the character’s lives. While not everyone can relate to being an orphan, or a wizard, kids can relate to feeling left out and/or different.
This fantasy packed with action will make you become best friends with the characters, as you follow them on their journey through the wizarding world.
