Daily Blog 1/31/18 Lock-down, Lock-down, Lock-down

Started class today with a lovely 15 minute long Lock-down drill.

Directly following the Lock-down drill we went over film editing techniques (cuts and transitions) in your our groups
Our group had
  • Fade in/out - To fade from one scene to another through transitions (Tends to also be in black)
  • Cutting on action - Cutting on action creates more of an effect on the people watching
  • Match cut - To different scenes where they make two different things look very similar . (A murder scene begins when some one starts to cut up some fruits instead of a person.
  • Cross cutting - A classic example of this is a phone call where to people are in different places and the shots keep crossing
  • Jump cuts - Quick unpolished cuts that happen all in the same shot
The list went on and on the further we dove into class about all of this but if you still have questions about different transitions and cuts watch this clip:

After reviewing the examples we watched a film clip and looked for the different cuts that were in the film.

This film included a series of different cuts and transitions including:
0:26 - 0:35, the Title page fades in and out
...Couldn't get to work on anymore so will finish in class tomorrow.

When taking the lock-down that happened today, Mr. Rivers put it in a very great way that can be used at any time anywhere. Lock downs can be a very dangerous situation based on where you are when it happens. You'll never know when one is going to happen so you'll always need to know how to react when it happens. Say you're in the bathroom see if you can get into a classroom real quick but if not you'll have to think fast and hide in a bathroom stall. So whenever this happens in the future either you're at work, college, vacation, etc you'll always need to know how to react effectively and quickly.
