Preparing to Conclude Our Literature Review
Hi Fellow Students,
Today in class, Mr.Rivers began the class by, what he called, a "condescending and cranky" conversation explaining the importance of doing your work on time, and properly managing and reflecting on the time we use in class and the time we use outside of class. However, we quickly turned back to the normal mood of class, and Mr.Rivers reminded us that the literature review is due tonight at midnight. We then looked at a picture of a "fancy tent" on the smart board, called a yurt. And he began to tell us of a yurt builder who was a master at building yurts, but then he was asked to design a mansion, and he was overwhelmed. Then he discovered that he just has to implement his yurt building skills to the mansion build and he was successful and at ease. This was a metaphor to our writing, and that even though we haven't done a paper like the literature review, that we have done enough "little projects" that we can combine and successfully tackle the literature review. We then wished each other good morning, and for the rest of the class finished working on our literature review (which, as he reminded us, must be done in MLA or APA format).
The unique aspect of today's conversation was the metaphorical yurt building story, and I believe this was an important lesson that we can use outside of the classroom. For example, any job you might have in the future, you will not be specifically prepared for, or have done the job before exactly. However, all the little things you have practiced in your life, can be broken apart in order to tackle a new job or some task.
