Daily Blog 1/23/18

Today in class on January 23, 2018, Mr. Rivers began telling us about what we we're doing in class. He told us how we were farther ahead of the other classes and because of this we were going to watch something called "The Oz of Wizard". When we all realized what this film was, we all immediately laughed. It put every word in the movie The Wizard of Oz in alphabetical order. Next we talked about how different cuts effect the look of a movie. The effect from editing can be seen through three different ways. Them being Narrative, Practical and thematic. Narrative furthers the story, thematic adds to tone and style, and lastly practical makes unrealistic things look real. After that, Mr. Rivers showed us the longest non-cut fight scene. What you can see is that because there is no cuts and editing, everything looks very fake and it does not have a practical scene to it.
This can relate to the real world when I edit YouTube videos, and film them as well. Knowing what to film so you can edit it better to make it seem more interesting and that makes a huge difference. Also, when I edit, I can cut at the action point to make things more powerful and realistic in the video. Overall, it was interesting to see how much can be effected from just cutting and using transitions in the videos.
