Daily Log Blog 1/24/18

Today in class we opened up by reviewing the narrative, thematic, and practical purposes in a film. Mr. Rivers then reminded us that our final b-reel blog is due at 11:59 pm tonight. He then told us that we were going to synthesize two film clips like we did yesterday, and we are also going to be looking at cause and effect. Cause and effect is when choices used in the film have an impact on the purpose of the shot. We then looked at different prompts of text and we had to justify the choices that the directors made as our own, as if we wrote the script for the movie, between the two films. We first watched Childish Gambino's Sweatpants ft. Problem. After we watched it, we discussed how the choices used in the clip impact the film itself. Our group said that it seems like it is one long shot over and over again, even though there is a cut hidden. After that, we watched a clip from Baby Driver which was called coffee run. We then discussed the cause and effect of the video within our groups. My group said that the music in the clip suits the video because it's in sync with the actions in the clip. We discussed this with the rest of the class and then Mr. Rivers told us that we were going to be drafting paragraphs on one of the two clips. Our group did the Baby Driver clip. We said that the clip was good because in the clip, the music basically fits the entire clip and the lyrics were also in the graffiti in the clip, so it added more emphasis to the music in the clip. This makes the music part of the clip. When the bell rang, Mr. Rivers told us that this was going to be homework if not finished.
