Daily Blog: 1/18/18

Today's class of Film as Literature we mainly continued to work on our essays. Although the class started off in a bit of a different way. Rather than getting straight to work or starting a new lesson Mr. Rivers had decided to discuss a seemingly random topic which was a yurt. If you don't know what a yurt is that is fine neither did I, but simply put it is just a permanent tent. Although this discussion of yurts was not without purpose. After a minute or two of describing what it was Mr. Rivers explained to the class how building a yurt can relate to writing. Not as a whole essay but more as a poem or short story, a yurt is just a smaller portion of writing. When given the task to build something like a yurt it seems easier when in comparison to a mansion. This mansion can relate to our writing in the form of an essay. When building said mansion it may seem overwhelming until you take a different approach, a mansion is just a bunch of smaller yurts put together. When comparing that to writing it makes sense too. An essay can't be completed without all of its smaller foundations to support its main cause.
After this quick discussion we as a class went to continue writing our Literary Reviews. Each person has their own topics making each writing too different to really discuss. Although one thing in common is the APA format we have to keep our writing in. This format differs from MLA in multiple ways. One of the biggest differences would be including its own title page.
Today's class related to the world at large in many ways. Just the discussion of yurts can make all the difference when attempting to complete a task. Some objectives can seem overwhelming at first but breaking them down and essentially giving yourself checkpoints can reduce the stress from those tasks. For example moving out for college. At first it seems like a great leap forward but taking it in steps helps prevent that stressful feeling. Instead of packing everything and just staying there for good only pack essentials so you have what you need and can always come back to visit.
