Daily Blog 1/18/18- The Home Stretch!

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

At the beginning of class today, we went over some reminders.

  • Our second Be Reel Blog is due by January 24th! That's the end of the marking period, so last chance to get it in.
    • If you didn't do your first blog before the new year, talk to Mr.Rivers about getting partial credit for doing it late.
  • Our literature review is due TONIGHT (January 18th) at 11:59 pm. If it is not in before then, Mr. Rivers will give out ZEROS. (That's 20% of your grade, I suggest you do it)
  • We also talked about Mr.Rivers' frustrations with our class/all of his classes. Not trying or procrastinating really upset him. Try your best to get any late work in ASAP and just push through the rest of the marking period!
The second half of class we discussed an image on the board. The image on the board was described by the class as a "fancy tent." But, the real name of this "fancy tent" is a Yurt.

Yurt- a circular tent of felt or skins on a collapsible framework, used by nomads in Mongolia, Siberia, and Turkey.

So, you may be asking yourself "what the hell does a fancy tent have to do with English?" Well, we compared it to an article we read in class. This author we talked about just writes short stories. He went from writing short stories to writing a novel, which was intimidating to him. Rivers compared that to going from building yurts your whole life to building a mansion! That being said, he advised us to think about our "yurts" when writing, meaning to think about the things that you're strong in! This will further your development and help your writing as a whole.

After that little bit of discussion, we continued with our work on our Literary Reviews. Good luck on finishing yours, and make sure to hand it in on time!
