Editor's Choices & It's Effects
We began class today by opening our notebooks (whether they are digital or hard-copy), and said good morning to our table mates. We then reflected on the previous piece of film we watched about the foreign karate kid, who beat up around 60 different people in a large building one-by-one, and analyzed how the editor's choices that were made created an effect in terms of narrative, thematic, or practical development.
Next, we were given an assignment for the next activity we would do, and it the objective was to compare and analyze the difference in single-shot scenes, and analyze the effectiveness between both, followed by composing a paragraph on these differences. The scenes we specifically compared and contrasted were a single-shot scene from the movie Baby Driver and a music video by Childish Gambino called Sweatpants ft. Problem. This again, would relate to the editing choices made by the director, for example in Baby Driver we saw that the main character would look around everywhere, and notice almost everything, which gives us a sense of his character which is included in narrative development.
For the rest of class, we attempted to finish working on the prior assignment, which is due by sometime during tomorrow's class.
The editor's choices are things that we can relate to the real world by analyzing the things and people around us, and the choices they make in anything they attempt to do. This can help us realize the possible effect they hope to have, and maybe improve the good we can see in people if they are trying to make an effect or change.
P.S. Be Reel Blogs are due tonight at midnight!
