Good evening class!
Today Mr. rivers started the class by reminding us about our be reel blogs and their significance in our grade and the expectations of a good critical review that evaluates the theme and craft of a film. He also reminded us that we should stay on top of our work because having a zero in the gradebook is foolish and is a bad habit especially since we are going to college soon and missed work will not be accepted. He also put a picture on the board of a ¨fancy tent¨ or yurt, which is a permanent or semi-permanent tent, and told us about George Saunders who compared writing his first novel to someone who builds yurts and was asked to build a mansion. When writing his novel he compared it to building a novel out of many small yurts. Mr. Rivers related this to our mindsets when writing and said that when we are stuck when writing we should go back to our yurts, what we are good at in writing and what we can do to build off of our yurts. Also reminder that our literature review is due by 11:59 tonight and late work will not be accepted! After this we had the rest of the period to work on our literature review while Mr. Rivers assisted with anything we needed help with.
Our lessons in class today about getting work in and not waiting until the last minute to do our work (or not so it at all) is not going to help us in the long run and is not going to be acceptable in the future. We were also given ways to try and fix our procrastination by working off of our yurts (our strengths) and use them to kick start our writing.
